Mt Hood Mushrooms
Mt Hood is covered with edible wild mushrooms of many types. Two of the most common types are Chanterelle (upper right) and
Morel (lower left). Mushrooms generally grow well in the spring and fall when the weather is moderately cool and damp. They
are so good if fixed right. However you must be very very careful to pick
the non-poisonous ones. One way to be somewhat sure you have the right ones is to use a book with pictures that
identify them. A much better technique is to combine the book with a review of your mushroom picking done by
the experts at the Mt Hood Information Center.
Just bring them in for review they should keep you safe. They also may have suggestions for picking locations.
The Information Center is located at 65000 East HWY 26, Welches, Oregon, 97067.
It is a great source of information for all Mt. Hood activities.
